BH- What is the working title of your next book?
DN- I’m always working on several projects at the same time. My publisher (Goliath) usually decides which project will be published next.
– For the sake of this interview, I’m going to talk about my Genderqueer project.
BH- Where did the idea come from for the book?
DN- Drew DeVeaux emailed me about working together. I wanted to, but Drew didn’t really fit into the projects I was currently working on. I liked Drew’s look a lot and had recently seen photos of Syd Blakovich & Jiz Lee. I wanted to explore this group of models and their identity.
BH- What genre does your book fall under?
DN- Genderqueer, Trans, Masculine of Center
BH- Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition?
DN- I think Tilda Swinton & Martha Plimpton are a good start.
BH- What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
DN- Exploring the looks and personalities of people in a genre that is largely unknown by popular culture.
BH- Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
Dn- I will have a publisher.
BH- How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript?
DN- I’ve been working on this project since 2009 and I have a ways to go.
BH- What other books would you compare this to within your genre?
DN- Catherine Opie is a huge inspiration. I love the work she’s done in this genre, although in her case, she’s closer to it.
BH- Who or what inspired you to write this book?
DN- The look and identities of the models I’ve shot and continue to shoot for this project.

Bob Mould: The Walt Disney Concert Hall Film – Kickstarter
Last November at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles, some of today’s most influential artists gathered to celebrate the music of Bob Mould. Dave Grohl (Foo Fighters), Britt Daniel (Spoon), Ryan Adams, No Age, Craig Finn and Tad Kubler (The Hold Steady), Margaret Cho with Grant Lee Phillips, and Jessica Dobson (The Shins, Deep Sea Diver) all performed songs from Bob’s historic catalog. Until now, only the 2,265 concert attendees have seen these amazing performances. Fortunately, the entire evening was captured in stunning audio and high-quality video quality by filmmaker Justin Mitchell.
